A moment to remember

Yesterday I heard a song that took me back to a specific moment in my life (as music does that to me). I was in the backseat with three other “friends” coasting down a windy mountain road in Boulder, Colorado, high on LSD.

5 years ago, you could find me in the wee hours of the night and day at a frat house, getting my hands on any drug that would help me to look cool, get high, and take me to a new place. At the time, I was making risky sexual decisions and growing my undesirable reputation as a frat groupie.

I heard this song sitting outside eating my breakfast and I take a moment to feel where I am now. I gave myself a gentle touch and said “I’m so proud of you.”

I’m 4 months into my sober journey and I’ll be honest it has not been easy. I’m finally feeling everything I’ve pushed away for so long, and it has been so hard going through this process without community. I know there are others out there, but I struggle to reach out and connect.

Today is different. I will go to my first AA Meeting since high school, and I’m genuinely excited to find a support system here.

If you are sober, or sober curious, I’d love to connect and talk about your sober journey and what has helped you along the way.

I want to take a moment and say wherever you are in life, I honor and support the decisions you make and only ask that you take a moment to thank yourself for who you have become.

I love you ❤
